Substantial progress made but still a long way to go. www.the-network.info is now well establised as a website for the christian community with the main focal points around wokingham town, woodley and the 3 projects, JAC, Lookout and Link visiting scheme, a new part time web officer has been recruited who will drive it forward to the next level, I am keen that we improve the level of engagement across Woodley and drive up membership and hence the value and use of the site over the next 12 months.

This years Lent courses will be focusing on the cross and promise to be a great opportunity to further deepen our understanding of this difficult part of our faith. i do hope we have a good response across the churches.

after 3 years I was relooking at some of the vision statements for Woodley, we have made progress with the free2B events and prayer twice monthly across the Christians in Woodley however we are a long way from the vision some had of a church of 3000 plus in Woodley. Recent appointments of a media officer and web officer with faith in the community do provide the opportunity to get the positive coverage of what christians are doing in Woodley and beyond in the paper. perhaps it’s time to get the leaders together again?

This project has evolved fantastically (not through my efforts!) but combined forces of faith in the community. The exising work that was being done in Woodely has developing into the Link visiting scheme with over 20 churches and 100 volunteers visiting isolated retired people, last year the scheme was shortlisted for a Faith workds award, for more details and updates see the website www.the-network.info

Well it is exactly three years since i started my 4 day/ week, work is changing and for the first time I seriously have considered returning fulltime. Was surprised to find this having prayed about it and on Friday felt the Lord said to me ‘It’s not about you it’s all about me’ as I felt pulled by the desire for earthly recognition! It’s still an option to consider carefully, I have today reviewed my committments (see 4D nasa teambuild) and one thing I am committed to 100% is continueing to find and following God’s purpose for my life.

Well the world has changed substantially since I began this blog and my dependence on God as my source of security and direction in life has been tested. The current credit crunch has however made me even more conscious of the importance of understanding that Jesus became human, lived in a very basic life with none of the comforts we have, and not even the joy of marriage and lived the end of his life in expectation of a horrible death. It is through my understanding that he suffered that I can find some strength and comfort in my times of difficulty and know that Jesus does understand the pain of humanity and the world.
The project has developed substantially since the start as I hope is demonstrated by viewing the website www.the-network.info which is substantially complete. the challenge now is to use the website to engage with people and actually make a difference to people’s lives through the projects we feature and support. Concrete evidence that the website has been successful in that regard is yet to be demonstrated.

The Soul cafe has now been meeting regularly and the times have been changed, see the soul cafe website (see links) for latest details. The team are keen to have the opportunity to promote the cafe within all the local churches and have approached the leadership direct to ask for these opportunities

it is hoped that this vision can be developed through the Volunteer Visiting Programme which is supported accross around 20 Wokingham churches and is in the process of securing funding and appointing a part-time administrator to support the work.

Progress on the website concept has been slow however a trial website has been set up at http://woodley.2day.ws/ and the decision made to hold further development of this site pending the development of a more comprehensive approach entitled ‘network Wokingham’ that uses some of the expertise available to the faith in the community group that has been used to develop some websites such as network Norwich and network Leeds (see website links)
Attached proposal has been produced for further discussion
Website spec for Network Wokingham
Meanwhile the more conventional methods of communication are being utilised, this includes use of small the church notice sheets, an update newsletter (see below) which was accompanied by presentation by Jeremy Galpin in St Johns, St James, Christ Church, Emmanuel and The Airfield all during October
